Five injured including two women due to the collapse of an under-construction building
A three-storied under-construction building collapsed yesterday at Badda in Dhaka. The building collapsed when three construction workers were working inside the building and two women were cooking food for the workers. Luckily other workers were outside the building.
The locals rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. They rescued all the injured people from under the debris of the collapsed building. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital by rickshaw.
A few minutes later, the fire service department’s rescuers and police came to the accident site and joined the local people in the rescue work.
The tragic incident occurred at around 1:00 PM when the workers were taking preparation for having their mid-day meal. The female cooks were also having preparation to leave the building after finishing their cooking on the ground floor. But in a cruel twist of fate, the building collapsed just before they could leave.
The victims of the building collapse who sustained serious injury were identified as Sahana (30), Robiul (35), and Shafiq (40). They were admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College. The injury of the other two was not serious. They were released from the hospital after first aid.
Local government administration has taken responsibility for the treatment of the injured and has given taka 50,000 to each of the five injured from government funds.
The locals alleged that the collapsed building was constructed without taking enough safety measures. They also alleged that the owner of the building was using substandard materials in building the building. However, they sighed a relief and thanked the almighty as nobody died in the incident.
The local administration and the fire service department formed two separate probe bodies to investigate the collapse of the building. The high officials assured the locals and the journalists that the building owner would have to face the law if the investigation team found his negligence. The owner must prove that he did not violate the existing building code of the government.
When contacted by phone, the owner of the collapsed building claimed that there were no irregularities in the construction of the building. He claimed that it was just an accident. However, at the request of the administration, one of the injured workers has filed a case with Badda police station for legal action in this incident.
