The decent word for sexual harassment is eve-teasing. Eve-teasing is a common phenomenon in Bangladesh. Teenage girls suffer much from this worst practice by some bad boys in society. The good side is that our law enforcement agencies are showing zero tolerance to the eve-teasers. We should keep in mind that real men always respect women. The man who tries to insult and belittle a woman through eve-teasing is a coward.
(Report-1): A class nine student tries to suicide for eve-teasing
Ikram, Staff reporter, 18 November: Nafisa Sultana (15) a class nine student of Palash, Narsingdi tried to kill herself by taking poisonous pesticide last night at her home because of eve-teasing.
The minor girl was admitted to Narsingdi General Hospital in a critical condition. The on-duty doctors said that she was under treatment and hopeful of early recovery.
The family sources informed the reporter that someone Kajol (25) a drug addict and an eve-teaser of the same village used to disturb the girl regularly on her way to school.
Local sources said that the local people know eve-teaser Kajol as a bad boy in the area. He has record of violence. He has been involved in several snatching incidents.
Nafisa is a meritorious student at a local girls school. Nafisa informed the incident of the teasing to her school and parents. At this, the criminal got angry. Kajol threatened Nafisa to abduct her. He used to use vulgar words to insult the girl.
The eve-teaser Kajol insulted the parents when asked about his misbehavior with Nafisa. He abused the parents of the girl.
Hearing the incident of insult of her parents Nafisa decided on suicide.
The father of the innocent girl filed a case in this connection. The officer-in-charge of Palash Thana informed the reporters that a police drive was going on to nab the culprit. The OC also informed that the criminal is listed in several other criminal cases. But nobody has been arrested yet till writing this report.
(Report-2): A school girl attacked for protesting eve-teasing, three arrested
Rakib, District correspondent, Chandpur, July 26, 2022: A girl student of class ten received severe injuries in an attack by hooligans as she protested against eve-teasing on her way to school on Monday.
Police arrested three criminals in this connection within two hours of the incident. The prime accused Habib Talukdar (20) was also arrested. All the eve-teasers are the residents of the North Algi union of the Haimchar Upazilla.
Quoting the victim and her parents, Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haimchar police station, informed the reporters of print and electronic media that Habib Talukdar the main culprit, and his accomplices used to tease the victim on her way to school.
On the day of the incident, the schoolgirl was going to school alone. At around 10.00 am the eve-teasers blocked her way and started abusing her. The girl protested the misbehavior. At this, the goons became angry and started to slap her. The prime criminal Habib hit the girl with a roadside brick.
The nearby people rushed to the spot hearing the screams of the girl. In the presence of the locals, the eve-teasers fled the scene leaving the victim in a critical condition. The local people rescued the girl and took her to the Upazila Health Complex, the OC added. The doctors are putting utmost emphasis on her treatment for early recovery.
“A special team of police nabbed three culprits so far”, OC said. The father of the victim is supposed to file a case in this connection. Till writing this report no case has been filed yet.
