Shantinagar, Dhaka

Dear Rupkotha,

Take my cordial love. Hope you are well. I am also well.

Yesterday I received your letter. You wanted to have a short description of Sonargaon which I have visited recently.

You know Sonargaon is a famous historical place in Bangladesh. Sonargaon is very near to Dhaka. The area was famous for its production of the finest quality of hand-made saree, among which Moslin was the most famous. In the medieval period, Sonargaon was the capital of Bengal. It was the administrative and commercial center of Bengal. It was also a rich maritime center. Sonargaon was the capital of Isa Khan a famous ruler in Bengal. Sonargaon is a great destination for the people who love ancient history and culture. They are attracted by the beauty of ruins of the ancient buildings and relics. Sonargaon was abandoned as the capital of Bengal in 1610 by the Mughal rulers when they shifted the capital to Dhaka.

There is a folklore museum which is a great attraction for the tourists. The things people used to use in their daily life are kept here. Daily life tools, ornaments, furniture, arms, musical instruments, etc. are being displayed here. These things remind us of the lifestyle of the ancient people.

It was a nice experience of visiting a historical and interesting place. I will never forget the memory of this visit. No more today. Stay well.

Your loving friend

Raisa
