Sheikh Saadi and his dress story

Sheikh Saadi and his dress is a common story. We all know the story. This is also a story with a good moral.

As it is a common and famous story with a moral students should be familiar with the story. This story is also important for the exams of schools and colleges.

Sheikh Saadi and his dress: (Story-1)

Sheikh Saadi was a great poet of his time. Once the king of Persia invited him to visit his palace. Sheikh Saadi accepted the invitation……………………………

The palace of the Persian king was far away from the home of Sheikh Saadi. One early morning he started his journey towards the Palace of the Persian king. In the mid-way it became evening. So the poet decided to take shelter at someone’s home. He knocked on the door of a rich man. The rich man opened the door and at the request of the poet, the rich man agreed to shelter him for the night.

The rich man could not recognize the poet. Sheikh Saadi did not disclose his identity. The rich man thought that he (the poet) was an ordinary man. The poet was also wearing a very simple dress. So the rich man and his servants treated the poet as an ordinary man. They served him simple food. They did not show him much respect and hospitality. The poet was given a normal bed to sleep in.

The next day early in the morning the poet left the rich man’s house and started his journey toward the king’s palace. In the afternoon he reached the king’s palace. The Persian king received him cordially and showed much respect and hospitality. The poet stayed several days at the king’s palace. The king presented the poet so many gifts and some valuable dresses.

On his way back home the poet again took shelter in that rich man’s house for a night. This time the rich man and his servants showed much respect and hospitality.

At dinner, the poet was given rich and delicious food. The poet was putting the food in his pocket. Seeing this the rich man asked him the reason behind his activity. The poet replied that a few days ago he was not treated properly because of his shabby dress. So this gorgeous dress deserves this food. This rich man became ashamed and could realize his fault. He begged pardon to the poet.

Dress does not make someone great: (Story 2)

Long ago there lived a famous poet named Sheikh Saadi in Persia (Iran). He used to lead a normal and simple life……….

Sheikh Saadi never put on expensive and gorgeous dress. He used to put on simple dress. Even when he paid a visit to the king of his country, he put on simple dress. Because he loved simple living.

One day the king of Persia invited him to the royal court. He started walking toward the royal court wearing his usual normal dress. At mid-way when it became night, he took shelter in the house of a rich man.

It was a culture of ancient times to take shelter at the house of rich people at night on the way to journey. The servants of the rich man and the rich man himself treated the poet as an ordinary man. They could not recognize him. The servants gave him ordinary food for dinner and a simple bed to sleep in. They even did not behave well with the poet.

The next morning waking up from sleep the poet started his journey toward the royal court. In the afternoon he reached the king’s court. The king received him cordially and showed much respect. Because the king was a fan of the poet.

After staying a few days in the royal court, the poet left the palace. At the time of leaving the palace, the Persian king presented the poet a lot of gifts. The king also gave him an expensive and gorgeous royal dress.

It was about evening when the poet was crossing the previous rich man’s house. So, the poet took shelter in the house of the rich man. The rich man and his servants became astonished to see the poet. Knowing the identity of the poet the rich man showed him much respect.

This time the rich man himself sat with the poet to have dinner. The rich man served delicious food on the plate of the poet. Instead of eating the food, Sheikh Saadi started putting the food in his pocket. The rich man was surprised to see the incident.

He asked the poet why he was doing so. The poet said that his dress deserved this food. The rich man could realize his previous fault. He became ashamed. He begged pardon to the poet. The rich man promised the poet that he would never judge people by their dress.

Moral of the story:

a. Dress does not make someone great.

b. Don’t judge a book by its cover.
